Chapter 74: Bharata Condemns Kaikeyī
Text 2.74.12
कौसल्यां धर्मसंयुक्तां वियुक्तां पापनिश्चये।
कृत्वा कं प्राप्स्यसे त्वद्य लोकं निरयगामिनि॥
kausalyāṁ dharma-saṁyuktāṁ viyuktāṁ pāpa-niścaye
kṛtvā kaṁ prāpsyase tv adya lokaṁ niraya-gāmini
kausalyām = Kausalyā-devī; dharma-saṁyuktām = who is endowed with piety; viyuktām = separated [from her son]; pāpa-niścaye = O lady of sinful determination; kṛtvā = having; kam = which; prāpsyase tu = will you go to; adya = after your death; lokam = world; niraya-gāmini = you are going to hell.
O lady of sinful determination, you are going to hell! Having now separated Kausalyā-devī who is endowed with piety [from her son], which world will you go to after your death?
GLOSS. Having stated that Kaikeyī will go to hell, Bharata’s question, “Which world will you to go to after your death?” indicates that even going to hell is insufficient for her because of her sins.
