न ह्यहं पापसङ्कल्पे पापे पापं त्वया कृतम्।
शक्तो धारयितुं पौरैरश्रुकण्ठैर्निरीक्षितः॥
na hy ahaṁ pāpa-saṅkalpe pāpe pāpaṁ tvayā kṛtam
śakto dhārayituṁ paurair aśru-kaṇṭhair nirīkṣitaḥ
na hi = not; aham = I; pāpa-saṅkalpe = of sinful decisions; pāpe = O sinful woman; pāpam = the sin; tvayā kṛtam = you have committed; śaktaḥ = am capable; dhārayitum = of tolerating; pauraiḥ = by the residents of this city; aśru-kaṇṭhaiḥ = their throats are choked due to their tears; nirīkṣitaḥ = I have been noticed.
I have been noticed by the residents of this city. Their throats are choked due to their tears. O sinful woman of sinful decisions, I am not capable of tolerating the sin you have committed.
1 Her sin was not just getting the kingdom for a younger prince in the place of the eldest prince. She did not accept Rāma as the authority and take shelter of Him; moreover, she planned to have Him out of the scene. This was certainly a great offense on her part.
Kaikeyī’s sin was the exile of Rāma.1
