Chapter 75: Bharata’s Conversation with Kausalyā-devī
Text 2.75.31
विश्वासात्कथितं किञ्चित्परिवादं मिथः क्वचित्।
विवृणोतु स दुष्टात्मा यस्यार्योऽनुमते गतः॥
viśvāsāt kathitaṁ kiñcit parivādaṁ mithaḥ kvacit
vivṛṇotu sa duṣṭātmā yasyāryo ’numate gataḥ
viśvāsāt = in secrecy; kathitam = communicated to him; kiñcit = a; parivādam = persons’ defect 3; mithaḥ = and confidence 4; kvacit = at some point in time; vivṛṇotu = may divulge; saḥ = that; duṣṭa-ātmā = evil soul; yasya = whose; āryaḥ = noble Rāma; anumate = with consent; gataḥ = has departed [to the forest].
May that evil soul with whose consent noble Rāma has departed [to the forest] divulge, at some point in time, a person’s defect communicated to him in secrecy and confidence.
1 It leads to sinful reactions.
It is implied that divulging the defect [of a person] communicated to him in secrecy out of trust to someone else is a degrading [sinful activity].1
