Chapter 76: Bharata Performs the Final Rites for Daśaratha
Text 2.76.19
शिबिकाभिश्च यानैश्च यथार्हं तस्य योषितः।
नगरान्निर्ययुस्तत्र वृद्धैः परिवृतास्तदा॥
śibikābhiś ca yānaiś ca yathārhaṁ tasya yoṣitaḥ
nagarān niryayus tatra vṛddhaiḥ parivṛtās tadā
śibikābhiḥ ca = on palanquins; yānaiḥ = horses; ca = and other vehicles; yathā-arham = as appropriate to each; tasya = Daśaratha’s; yoṣitaḥ = wives; nagarāt = from the city; niryayuḥ = departed; tatra = to that place; vṛddhaiḥ = by elderly male servants; parivṛtāḥ = surrounded; tadā = at that time.
At that time Daśaratha’s wives departed from the city to that place on palanquins, horses and other vehicles as appropriate to each, surrounded by elderly male servants.
