Chapter 77: Bharata and Śatrughna Lament About Daśaratha’s Departure
Text 2.77.7
यस्या गतिरनाथायाः पुत्रः प्रव्राजितो वनम्।
तामम्बां तात कौसल्यां त्यक्त्वा त्वं क्व गतो नृप॥
yasyā gatir anāthāyāḥ putraḥ pravrājito vanam
tām ambāṁ tāta kausalyāṁ tyaktvā tvaṁ kva gato nṛpa
yasyāḥ = she; gatiḥ = her shelter; anāthāyāḥ = is now unprotected; putraḥ = was her son; pravrājitaḥ = who has been exiled; vanam = to the forest; tām ambām = mother; tāta = O father; kausalyām = Kausalyā; tyaktvā = after giving up; tvam = you; kva = where; gataḥ = did go; nṛpa = O king.
O father, O king, where did you go after giving up mother Kausalyā? She is now unprotected. Her shelter was her son who has been exiled to the forest.
