Chapter 83: Bharata Reaches Śṛṅgiberapura
Text 2.83.19-20

ते गत्वा दूरमध्वानं रथयानाश्वकुञ्जरैः।
समासेदुस्ततो गङ्गां श्रृङ्गिबेरपुरं प्रति॥

यत्र रामसखो वीरो गुहो ज्ञातिगणैर्वृतः।
निवसत्यप्रमादेन देशं तं परिपालयन्॥

te gatvā dūram adhvānaṁ ratha-yānāśva-kuñjaraiḥ
samāsedus tato gaṅgāṁ śṛṅgiberapuraṁ prati

yatra rāma-sakho vīro guho jñāti-gaṇair vṛtaḥ
nivasaty apramādena deśaṁ taṁ paripālayan

te = they; gatvā = having gone; dūram = a long distance; adhvānam = by that path; ratha-yāna-aśva-kuñjaraiḥ = on chariots, vehicles, horses and elephants; samāseduḥ tataḥ = reached; gaṅgām = Gaṅgā; śṛṅgiberapuram prati = Śṛṅgiberapura; yatra = where; rāma-sakhaḥ = Rāma’s friend; vīraḥ = the heroic; guhaḥ = Guha; jñāti-gaṇaiḥ vṛtaḥ = with his relatives; nivasati = lived; apramādena = attentively; deśam = land; tam = that; paripālayan = protecting.

Having gone a long distance by that path on chariots, vehicles, horses and elephants, they reached Gaṅgā near Śṛṅgiberapura where Rāma’s friend, the heroic Guha lived with his relatives, attentively protecting that land.

Guha was attentive to prevent the arrival of Rāma’s opponents.
