Chapter 87: Further Conversation Between Bharata and Guha
Text 2.87.15
अन्नमुच्चावचं भक्ष्याः फलानि विविधानि च।
रामायाभ्यवहारार्थं बहु चोपहृतं मया॥
annam uccāvacaṁ bhakṣyāḥ phalāni vividhāni ca
rāmāyābhyavahārārthaṁ bahu copahṛtaṁ mayā
annam = rice; uccāvacam = of various grades; bhakṣyāḥ = other eatables; phalāni = of fruits; vividhāni = a variety; ca = and; rāmāya = for Rāma; abhyavahāra-artham = to eat; bahu = much; ca upahṛtam = procured; mayā = I.
I procured much rice of various grades, a variety of fruits and other eatables for Rāma to eat.
Bhakṣyāḥ (“other eatables”) refers to baked cakes and so on. Bahu ca indicate that Guha had brought foodstuffs that could be sucked, licked and so on.
NOTE. This refers to the four kinds of foodstuff as described by Prabhupāda in his purport to Bhagavad-gītā (15.14):
There are four kinds of foodstuff—some are drunk, some are chewed, some are licked up, and some are sucked.
