Chapter 88: Bharata Laments About Rāma’s Predicament
Text 2.88.26
अद्यप्रभृति भूमौ तु शयिष्येऽहं तुणेषु वा।
फलमूलाशनो नित्यं जटाचीराणि धारयन्॥
adya-prabhṛti bhūmau tu śayiṣye ’haṁ tṛṇeṣu vā
phala-mūlāśano nityaṁ jaṭā-cīrāṇi dhārayan
adya-prabhṛti = from today; bhūmau tu = on the ground; śayiṣye = will lie; aham = I; tṛṇeṣu = grass; vā = or; phala-mūla-aśanaḥ = I will subsist on fruits and roots; nityam = daily; jaṭā-cīrāṇi = matted locks and clothes from bark; dhārayan = wearing.
“From today I will lie on the ground or grass. Wearing matted locks and clothes from bark, I will daily subsist on fruits and roots.
