Chapter 88: Bharata Laments About Rāma’s Predicament
Text 2.88.27
तस्यार्थमुत्तरं कालं निवत्स्यामि सुखं वने।
तं प्रतिश्रवमामुच्य नास्य मिथ्या भविष्यति॥
tasyārtham uttaraṁ kālaṁ nivatsyāmi sukhaṁ vane
taṁ pratiśravam āmucya nāsya mithyā bhaviṣyati
tasya artham = for the sake of Rāma; uttaram kālam = for the remaining period of time; nivatsyāmi = I will stay; sukham = happily; vane = in the forest; tam pratiśravam = the promise upon Myself; āmucya = taking on; na = won’t; asya = the promise; mithyā bhaviṣyati = be unfulfilled.
“Taking on the promise upon Myself, I will happily stay in the forest for the remaining period of time for the sake of Rāma. The promise won’t be unfulfilled.
“For the remaining period of time” indicates that Bharata wanted to spend the remaining period of the fourteen years in the forest, that is, the period apart from the days Rāma had [already] spent in the forest.
