Chapter 89: Bharata Crosses Gaṅgā and Reaches Prayāga

गुहस्य तत्तु वचनं श्रुत्वा स्नेहादुदीरितम्।
रामस्यानुवशो वाक्यं भरतोऽपीदमब्रवीत्॥
guhasya tat tu vacanaṁ śrutvā snehād udīritam
rāmasyānuvaśo vākyaṁ bharato ’pīdam abravīt
guhasya = Guha’s; tat tu vacanam = words; śrutvā = upon hearing; snehāt = out of affection; udīritam = uttered; rāmasya = of Rāma; anuvaśaḥ = who was a dependent [order-carrier]; vākyam = words; bharataḥ = Bharata; api = also; idam = the following; abravīt = spoke.
Upon hearing Guha’s words uttered out of affection, Bharata who was also a dependent [order-carrier] of Rāma spoke the following words.1
1 “Also” indicates that Guha was a dependent order-carrier of Rāma and Bharata was also such a dependent order-carrier of Rāma.
