भाण्डानि चाददानानां घोषस्त्रिदिवमस्पृशत्॥

āvāsam ādīpayatāṁ tīrthaṁ cāpy avagāhatām
bhāṇḍāni cādadānānāṁ ghoṣas tri-divam aspṛśat

āvāsam = the [temporary] residence [of the army]; ādīpayatām = of those burning; tīrtham ca api = to the sacred river; avagāhatām = of those descending down; bhāṇḍāni = their wares; ca = and; ādadānānām = of those grabbing; ghoṣaḥ = the noise; tri-divam = the heavens; aspṛśat = reached.

The noise of those burning the [temporary] residence [of the army], of those descending down to the sacred river and of those grabbing their wares reached the heavens.

[Regarding the noise of those burning the residential area:] It is well-known that soldiers of the king burn their [temporary] residences at the time of their departure so that they can attain prosperity.

[Regarding the noise of those descending down the sacred river:] This refers to people who were boasting while descending down the sacred river to bring down the boats.

[Regarding the noise of grabbing their wares:] The people who were quickly picking up their wares [loudly kept on saying,] “This is mine.”
