Chapter 90: Bharata Meets Bharadvāja Ṛṣi
Text 2.90.4
वसिष्ठमथ दृष्ट्वैव भरद्वाजो महातपाः।
संचचालासनात्तूर्णं शिष्यानर्घ्यमिति ब्रुवन्॥
vasiṣṭham atha dṛṣṭvaiva bharadvājo mahā-tapāḥ
sañcacālāsanāt tūrṇaṁ śiṣyān arghyam iti bruvan
vasiṣṭham = Vasiṣṭha; atha = as soon as; dṛṣṭvā eva = noticed; bharadvājaḥ = Bharadvāja; mahā-tapāḥ = of great austerity; sañcacāla = he got up; āsanāt = from his seat; tūrṇam = quickly; śiṣyān = his disciples; arghyam = to bring water for worship; iti bruvan = while telling.
As soon as Bharadvāja of great austerity noticed Vasiṣṭha, he quickly got up from his seat while telling his disciples to bring water for worship.1
1 This is standard civilized etiquette among brāhmaṇas. Getting up from the seat when a respectable person comes is a way of showing respect.
