Chapter 91: Bharadvāja’s Hospitality to Bharata, His Army and Family
Text 2.91.3

अथोवाच भरद्वाजो भरतं प्रहसन्निव।
जाने त्वां प्रीतिसंयुक्तं तुष्येस्त्वं येनकेनचित्।।

athovāca bharadvājo bharataṁ prahasann iva
jāne tvāṁ prīti-saṁyuktaṁ tuṣyes tvaṁ yena kenacit

atha = then; uvāca = said; bharadvājaḥ = Bharadvāja; bharatam = Bharata; prahasan iva = smilingly; jāne = I know that; tvām = You are; prīti-saṁyuktam = full of affection for me; tuṣyeḥ = are therefore satisfied; tvam = and that You; yena kenacit = with whatever I offer You.

Bharadvāja then smilingly told Bharata, “I know that You are full of affection for me and that You are therefore satisfied with whatever I offer You.

The sage smiled upon Bharata because he knew that Bharata was wondering what the sage would do [as a gesture of hospitality].
