Chapter 92: Bharata Departs for Citrakūṭa
Text 2.92.17
तं प्रदक्षिणमागम्य भगवन्तं महामुनिम्।
अदूराद्भरतस्यैव तस्थौ दीनमनास्तदा॥
taṁ pradakṣiṇam āgamya bhagavantaṁ mahā-munim
adūrād bharatasyaiva tasthau dīna-manās tadā
tam = that; pradakṣiṇam āgamya = circumambulated and; bhagavantam = powerful; mahā-munim = great sage; adūrāt bharatasya eva = not far from Bharata; tasthau = stood; dīna-manāḥ = with a distressed mind; tadā = Kaikeyī then.
Kaikeyī then circumambulated that powerful great sage and, with a distressed mind, stood not far from Bharata.
1 Note that the previous verses did not mention that Kausalyā-devī or Sumitrā-devī circumambulating the great sage. Kaikeyī did so out of shame.
Out of sheer embarrassment, Kaikeyī was unable to stand with Kausalyā and Sumitrā in front of the sage. So, on the pretext of circumambulating the sage, she went [and stood] by Bharata.1
