Chapter 15: The Demigods Appeal to the Lord for Protection
Text 1.15.3

ततः प्रारब्धवानिष्टिं पुत्रीयां पुत्रकारणात्।
जुहाव चाग्नौ तेजस्वी मन्त्रदृष्टेन कर्मणा॥

tataḥ prārabdhavān iṣṭiṁ putrīyāṁ putra-kāraṇāt
juhāva
cāgnau tejasvī mantra-dṛṣṭena karmaṇā

tataḥ = then; prārabdhavān = he began; iṣṭiṁ = the Iṣṭi sacrifice; putrīyām = dedicated to bringing forth sons; putra-kāraṇāt = to bring about sons; juhāva ca = offered oblations; agnau = unto the sacred fire; tejasvī = the powerful sage; mantra-dṛṣṭena = as understood from the Vedic mantras; karmaṇā = while performing the ritual.

Then, he began the Iṣṭi sacrifice dedicated to bringing forth sons. The powerful sage offered oblations unto the sacred fire while performing the ritual as understood from the Vedic mantras.

Following the sequence of prescribed actions seen in the scriptures, he offered an āhuti, an oblation. What happened next during this sacrifice will be described in the next chapter. In the meanwhile, there was another reason for the Supreme Personality of Godhead to appear—the prayers of the demigods.
