Chapter 95: Rāma Describes Mandākinī’s Beauty to Sītā
Text 2.95.3
विचित्रपुलिनां रम्यां हंससारससेविताम्।
कमलैरुपसंपन्नां पश्य मन्दाकिनीं नदीम्॥
vicitra-pulināṁ ramyāṁ haṁsa-sārasa-sevitām
kamalair upasampannāṁ paśya mandākinīṁ nadīm
vicitra-pulinām = her banks are very astonishing; ramyām = this charming; haṁsa-sārasa-sevitām = and sārasa swans have taken shelter of her; kamalaiḥ = with lotuses; upasampannām = she is filled; paśya = look at; mandākinīm = Mandākinī; nadīm = river.
Look at this charming Mandākinī river. Her banks are very astonishing. She is filled with lotuses and sārasa swans have taken shelter of her.
Mandākinī’s banks were very astonishing because they were decorated with fresh grass.
Here Rāma hints that Mandākinī resembled Sītā-devī whose hips were wide, whose anklebells tinkled sweetly, and whose hands, feet and face were beautiful.
