Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 96: Lakṣmaṇa Notices Bharata’s Army
Text 2.96.10

सुदुश्चरो गिरिश्चायं पक्षिणामपि लक्ष्मण।
सर्वमेतद्यथातत्त्वमचिराज्ज्ञातुमर्हसि॥

suduścaro giriś cāyaṁ pakṣiṇām api lakṣmaṇa
sarvam etad yathā-tattvam acirāj jñātum arhasi

suduścaraḥ = has become inaccessible; giriḥ ca ayam = this mountain; pakṣiṇām api = even to the birds; lakṣmaṇa = Lakṣmaṇa; sarvam = everything; etat = about this; yathā-tattvam = correctly; acirāt = and quickly; jñātum arhasi = find out.

Lakṣmaṇa, this mountain has become inaccessible even to the birds! Find out everything about this correctly and quickly.

“This mountain has become inaccessible even to the birds” indicates that even the birds didn’t fly at that time. [Rāma wanted Lakṣmaṇa] to find out which of the causes He had referred to [in the previous verse] caused this.
