Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 97: Rāma Instructs Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.97.26
न तु पश्यामि तच्छत्रं पाण्डुरं लोकसत्कृतम्।
पितुर्दिव्यं महाबाहो संशयो भवतीह मे॥
na tu paśyāmi tac chatraṁ pāṇḍuraṁ loka-satkṛtam
pitur divyaṁ mahā-bāho saṁśayo bhavatīha me
na tu = don’t; paśyāmi = I see; tat chatram = umbrella; pāṇḍuram = white; loka-satkṛtam = that is honoured by all; pituḥ = of Our father; divyam = the divine; mahā-bāho = mighty-armed Lakṣmaṇa; saṁśayaḥ bhavati iha me = [and] I have a doubt about his situation.
“Mighty-armed Lakṣmaṇa, I don’t see the divine white umbrella of Our father that is honored by all [and] I have a doubt about his situation.”
Loka-satkṛtam (“that is honored by all”) indicates [that the umbrella of King Daśaratha was] extraordinary.
GLOSS. [Rāma didn’t know] whether His father had come or not. This was His doubt.
