Chapter 100: Rāma Instructs Bharata About the Duties of a King

एकोऽप्यमात्यो मेधावी शूरो दक्षो विचक्षणः।
राजानं राजमात्रं वा प्रापयेन्महतीं श्रियम्॥
eko ’py amātyo medhāvī śūro dakṣo vicakṣaṇaḥ
rājānaṁ rāja-mātraṁ vā prāpayen mahatīṁ śriyam
ekaḥ = one; api = even; amātyaḥ = minister; medhāvī = perceptive; śūraḥ = whose intelligence is stable; dakṣaḥ = who is capable of deliberation; vicakṣaṇaḥ = who is learned in Artha-śāstra; rājānam = to a king; rāja-mātram = [even] one who claims to be a king; vā = or; prāpayet = can bring about; mahatīm = great; śriyam = prosperity.
Even one perceptive minister whose intelligence is stable, who is capable of deliberation and who is learned in Artha-śāstra can bring about great prosperity to a king or [even] one who claims to be a king.
Rāma now elaborates on the meaning of a thinker [that He had referred to].
Medhāvī (“perceptive”) refers to one who can immediately and sharply grasp the ideas communicated by others.
