भयं त्यजत भद्रं वो हितार्थं युधि रावणम्।
सपुत्रपौत्रं सामात्यं समित्रज्ञातिबान्धवम्॥
हत्वा क्रूरं दुरात्मानं देवर्षीणां भयावहम्।
दशवर्षसहस्राणि दशवर्षशतानि च।
वत्स्यामि मानुषे लोके पालयन्पृथिवीमिमाम्॥
bhayaṁ tyajata bhadraṁ vo hitārthaṁ yudhi rāvaṇam
saputra-pautraṁ sāmātyaṁ samitra-jñāti-bāndhavam
hatvā krūraṁ durātmānaṁ deva-rṣīṇāṁ bhayāvaham
daśa-varṣa-sahasrāṇi daśa-varṣa-śatāni ca
vatsyāmi mānuṣe loke pālayan pṛthivīm imām
bhayam = your fear; tyajata = give up; bhadram = let there be auspiciousness; vaḥ = upon you; hita-artham = because for everyone’s benefit; yudhi = [I will kill him] in war; rāvaṇam = Rāvaṇa; saputra-pautram = with his sons, grandsons; sa-amātyam = ministers; sa-mitra-jñāti-bāndhavam = friends, kinsmen and relatives; hatvā = I will kill; krūram = the cruel and; durātmānam = evil-minded; deva-ṛṣīṇām = to the devas and ṛṣis; bhaya-āvaham = who brings about fear; daśa-varṣa-sahasrāṇi daśa-varṣa-śatāni ca = for 11,000 years; vatsyāmi = I will reside; mānuṣe loke = in the world of men; pālayan = and protect to establish the principles of dharma; pṛthivīm = earth; imām = this.
Give up your fear. Let there be auspiciousness upon you because for everyone’s benefit, I will kill the cruel and evil-minded Rāvaṇa who brings about fear to the devas and ṛṣis. [I will kill him] in war with his sons, grandsons, ministers, friends, kinsmen and relatives. I will reside in the world of men for 11,000 years and protect this earth to establish the principles of dharma.
Therefore, the Lord was described as having appeared with His conch, discuss and mace.
