वसिष्ठः पुरतः कृत्वा दारान्दशरथस्य च।

vasiṣṭhaḥ purataḥ kṛtvā dārān daśarathasya ca
abhicakrāma taṁ deśaṁ rāma-darśana-tarṣitaḥ
vasiṣṭhaḥ = Vasiṣṭha; purataḥ = in front; kṛtvā = placed; dārān = wives; daśarathasya = Daśaratha’s; ca = and; abhicakrāma = proceeded; tam deśam = to the place [of Rāma]; rāma-darśana-tarṣitaḥ = thirsty to meet Rāma.
Thirsty to meet Rāma, Vasiṣṭha placed Daśaratha’s wives in front and proceeded to the place [of Rāma].1
1 Vasiṣṭha’s hankering to meet Rāma is not surprising for he was a pure devotee of Lord Śrī Rāmacandra. Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura has noted in his Tattva-sūtra (Section 4) that Vasiṣṭha and Vālmīki are pure devotees of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. They aren’t just dhārmika or sāttvika souls.
This chapter describes the meeting [of Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā-devī] with Their mothers.
