Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 104: Bharata Beseeches Rāma to Rule the Kingdom
Text 2.104.22
एताभ्यां धर्मशीलाभ्यां वनं गच्छेति राघव।
मातापितृभ्यामुक्तोऽहं कथमन्यत्समाचरे॥
etābhyāṁ dharma-śīlābhyāṁ vanaṁ gaccheti rāghava
mātā-pitṛbhyām ukto ’haṁ katham anyat samācare
etābhyām = by these two; dharma-śīlābhyām = whose conduct is in line with dharma; vanam = to the forest; gaccha iti = go; rāghava = O descendant of Raghu; mātā-pitṛbhyām = My mother and father; uktaḥ = have been ordered with the words; aham = I; katham = how can; anyat = differently; samācare = I conduct Myself.
O descendant of Raghu, I have been ordered by these two—My mother and father whose conduct is in line with dharma—with the words, “Go to the forest.” How can I conduct Myself differently?
Here He states His conclusion.
