Chapter 106: Bharata Persists in His Request
Text 2.106.11
गुरुः क्रियावान्वृद्धश्च राजा प्रेतः पितेति च।
तातं न परिगर्हेयं दैवतं चेति संसदि॥
guruḥ kriyāvān vṛddhaś ca rājā pretaḥ piteti ca
tātaṁ na parigarheyaṁ daivataṁ ceti saṁsadi
guruḥ = he was my guru; kriyāvān = he performed yajñas and other activities [prescribed for him]; vṛddhaḥ ca = he was old; rājā = he was our king; pretaḥ = he is now dead; pitā iti = he was my father; ca = and; tātam = My father; na = not; parigarheyam = I should criticize; daivatam ca iti = who was also worshippable; saṁsadi = in an assembly.
He was my guru. He performed yajñas and other activities [prescribed for him]. He was old. He was our king and he was My father. He is now dead. I should not criticize My father who was also worshippable in an assembly.
