Chapter 107: Rāma Explains why the King Gave the Kingdom to Kaikeyī
Text 2.107.5

ततः सा संप्रतिश्राव्य तव माता यशस्विनी।
अयाचत नरश्रेष्ठं द्वौ वरौ वरवर्णिनी॥

tataḥ sā sampratiśrāvya tava mātā yaśasvinī
ayācata nara-śreṣṭhaṁ dvau varau vara-varṇinī

tataḥ = then; = that lady; sampratiśrāvya = had promise her [that he would fulfill her desire]; tava = Your; mātā = mother; yaśasvinī = illustrious; ayācata = and [then] asked; nara-śreṣṭham = the king; dvau = for those two; varau = boons; vara-varṇinī = with a golden complexion.

Then that lady with a golden complexion, Your illustrious mother, had the king promise her [that he would fulfill her desire] and then asked for those two boons.1

1 Vara-varṇinī also indicates that she described what she wanted as her two boons. Indeed, she repeatedly clarified what she meant and what she didn’t mean.
