Chapter 107: Rāma Explains why the King Gave the Kingdom to Kaikeyī
Text 2.107.7

तेन पित्राहमप्यत्र नियुक्तः पुरुषर्षभ।
चतुर्दश वने वासं वर्षाणि वरदानिकम्॥

tena pitrāham apy atra niyuktaḥ puruṣa-rṣabha
caturdaśa vane vāsaṁ varṣāṇi varadānikam

tena pitrā = by Our father; aham api = I; api = and; atra = this; niyuktaḥ = was ordered; puruṣa-ṛṣabha = O prince; caturdaśa = for fourteen; vane = in forest; vāsam = to reside; varṣāṇi = years; varadānikam = because he had granted those two boons.

And I was ordered by Our father to reside in this forest for fourteen years because he had granted those two boons, O prince!

O prince, having promised Kaikeyī the kingdom, he granted the boon that I reside in this forest for fourteen years and ordered Me [thus].
