Chapter 108: Jābāli Speaks the Philosophy of Materialism
Text 2.108.4

तस्मान्माता पिता चेति राम सज्जेत यो नरः।
उन्मत्त इव स ज्ञेयो नास्ति कश्चिद्धि कस्यचित्॥

tasmān mātā pitā ceti rāma sajjeta yo naraḥ
unmatta iva sa jñeyo nāsti kaścid dhi kasyacit

tasmāt = therefore; mātā = this my mother; pitā = father; ca = and; iti = thinking; rāma = O Rāma; sajjeta = becomes attached; yaḥ = who; naraḥ = the man; unmattaḥ = a madman; iva = to be like; saḥ jñeyaḥ = should be understood; na = no; asti = belongs; kaścit hi = for one; kasyacit = to anyone.

O Rāma, therefore the man who becomes attached, thinking “this is my mother and father,” should be understood to be like a madman, for no one belongs to anyone.
