susandher api putrau dvau dhruvasandhiḥ prasenajit
yaśasvī dhruvasandhes tu bharato ripu-sūdanaḥ
susandheḥ api = Susandhi had; putrau = sons; dvau = two; dhruvasandhiḥ = Dhruvasandhi; prasenajit = and Prasenajit; yaśasvī = the famous; dhruvasandheḥ tu = from Dhruvasandhi appeared; bharataḥ = Bharata; ripu-sūdanaḥ = the killer of his enemies.
“Susandhi had two sons: Dhruvasandhi and Prasenajit. From Dhruvasandhi appeared the famous Bharata, the killer of his enemies.
By only stating the lineage coming down from Dhruvasandhi, the eldest son [of Susandhi], Vasiṣṭha states that the kingdom was given to him.
