Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 111: Rāma Agrees to Accept the Throne After Returning to Ayodhyā
Text 2.111.14

अनाहारो निरालोको धनहीनो यथा द्विजः।
शेष्ये पुरस्ताच्छालाया यावन्न प्रतियास्यति॥

anāhāro nirāloko dhana-hīno yathā dvijaḥ
śeṣye purastāc chālāyā yāvan na pratiyāsyati

anāhāraḥ = without eating; nirālokaḥ = and covering My face; dhana-hīnaḥ = a poor; yathā = like; dvijaḥ = brāhmaṇa; śeṣye = I will lie down; purastāt = in front; śālāyāḥ = of the cottage; yāvat na = until; pratiyāsyati = He returns.

Without eating and covering My face like a poor brāhmaṇa, I will lie down in front of the cottage until He returns.

This is how He wanted to protest.

GLOSS. “Until He returns” means “until He returns while saying, ‘I will arrange to do what You say.’”
