Chapter 114: Ayodhyā’s loss of Splendor
Text 2.114.30

एवं बहुविधं जल्पन्विवेश वसतिं पितुः।
तेन हीनां नरेन्द्रेण सिंहहीनां गुहामिव॥

evaṁ bahu-vidhaṁ jalpan viveśa vasatiṁ pituḥ
tena hīnāṁ narendreṇa siṁha-hīnāṁ guhām iva

evam = thus; bahu-vidham = in many ways; jalpan = speaking; viveśa = Bharata entered; vasatim = residence; pituḥ = His father’s; tena = of the; hīnām = it was devoid; nara-indreṇa = king; siṁha-hīnām = devoid of a lion; guhām = a cave; iva = resembling.

Speaking thus in many ways, Bharata entered His father’s residence. It was devoid of the king, resembling a cave devoid of a lion.
