Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 115: Bharata Goes to Nandigrāma
Text 2.115.5
सुभृशं श्लाघनीयं च यदुक्तं भरत त्वया।
वचनं भ्रातृवात्सल्यादनुरूपं तवैव तत्॥
subhṛśaṁ ślāghanīyaṁ ca yad uktaṁ bharata tvayā
vacanaṁ bhrātṛ-vātsalyād anurūpaṁ tavaiva tat
subhṛśam = is extremely; ślāghanīyam = worthy of praise; ca = and; yat = what; uktam = spoken; bharata = Bharata; tvayā = You have; vacanam1 bhrātṛ-vātsalyāt = out of affection for Your brother; anurūpam = appropriate; tava eva tat = for You.
Bharata, what You have spoken out of affection for Your brother is extremely worthy of praise and appropriate for You.
1 Technical note: vacanam uktam.
In some manuscripts, sadṛśam appears instead of subhṛśam indicating that Bharata’s words were extremely worthy of praise like His dynasty.
