Chapter 117: Anasūyā Instructs Sītā About Strī-dharma

स्कन्धावारनिवेशेन तेन तस्य महात्मनः।
हयहस्तिकरीषैश्च उपमर्दः कृतो भृशम्॥
skandhāvāra-niveśena tena tasya mahātmanaḥ
haya-hasti-karīṣaiś ca upamardaḥ kṛto bhṛśam
skandhāvāra-niveśena = of the encampment of the army; tena = because; tasya mahā-ātmanaḥ = of the great soul Bharata; haya-hasti-karīṣaiḥ = the stool of the horses and elephants; ca = as well as; upamardaḥ kṛtaḥ bhṛśam = the place had become greatly contaminated.
Because of the encampment of the army of the great soul Bharata as well as the stool of the horses and elephants, the place had become greatly contaminated.
