सीता त्वेतद्वचः श्रुत्वा राघवस्य हितैषिणः।
तामत्रिपत्नीं धर्मज्ञामभिचक्राम मैथिली॥
शिथिलां वलितां वृद्धां जरापाण्डुरमूर्धजाम्।
सततं वेपमानाङ्गीं प्रवाते कदली यथा॥
sītā tv etad vacaḥ śrutvā rāghavasya hitaiṣiṇaḥ
tām atri-patnīṁ dharmajñām abhicakrāma maithilī
śithilāṁ valitāṁ vṛddhāṁ jarā-pāṇḍura-mūrdhajām
satataṁ vepamānāṅgīṁ pravāte kadalī yathā
sītā tu = when Sītā; etat = these; vacaḥ = words; śrutvā = heard; rāghavasya = from Rāghava; hita-eṣiṇaḥ = who desired her welfare; tām = that; atri-patnīm = Atri’s wife; dharmajñām = who knew dharma; abhicakrāma = she approached; maithilī = of Mithilā; śithilām = was feeble; valitām = and wrinkled; vṛddhām = the elderly lady; jarā-pāṇḍura-mūrdhajām = her hair had turned grey due to old age; satatam = constantly; vepamāna-aṅgīm = she trembled; pravāte = during a storm; kadalī = a banana tree; yathā = like.
When Sītā of Mithilā heard these words from Rāghava who desired her welfare, she approached Atri’s wife. The elderly lady who knew dharma was feeble and wrinkled. Her hair had turned grey due to old age and she constantly trembled like a banana tree during a storm.
