Chapter 117: Anasūyā Instructs Sītā About Strī-dharma
Text 2.117.28

तदेवमेनं त्वमनुव्रता सती पतिव्रतानां समयानुवर्तिनी।
भव स्वभर्तुः सहधर्मचारिणी यशश्च धर्मं च ततः समाप्स्यसि॥

tad evam enaṁ tvam anuvratā satī
pati-vratānāṁ samayānuvartinī
bhava sva-bhartuḥ saha-dharmacāriṇī
yaśaś ca dharmaṁ ca tataḥ samāpsyasi

tat = therefore; evam = thus; enam tvam anuvratā satī = while following the dharma of serving your husband; pati-vratānām = of women sworn in chastity to their husband; samaya-anuvartinī = follow the [exemplary] behavior 2; bhava = become; sva-bhartuḥ = of Your husband; saha-dharmacāriṇī = a companion in following the dharma; yaśaḥ = fame; ca = and; dharmam = pious credits; ca = and; tataḥ = then; samāpsyasi = you will attain.

“Therefore while thus following the dharma of serving your husband, follow the [exemplary] behavior of women sworn in chastity to their husband. Become a companion in following the dharma of Your husband and then you will attain fame and pious credits.”

Anasūyā, the [dedicated] practitioner of dharma, told Sītā, “By following the dharma of a lady sworn in chastity to her husband (pativratā), you will become praised by all, and over time you will attain abundant auspiciousness because of the piety born of your chastity to her husband.”1
