Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 118: Conversation Between Sītā and Anasūyā
Text 2.118.31
अन्तरिक्षे च वागुक्ता प्रति मामानुषी किल।
एवमेतन्नरपते धर्मेण तनया तव॥
antarikṣe ca vāg uktā prati māmānuṣī kila
evam etan narapate dharmeṇa tanayā tava
antarikṣe ca = in the sky [then]; vāk = voice; uktā = annonuced; prati mā = about me; amānuṣī kila = a celestial; evam etat = that’s right; narapate = O king; dharmeṇa = according to dharma; tanayā tava = she is your daughter.
A celestial voice in the sky [then] announced about me, “That’s right. O king, she is your daughter according to dharma.”
The first line can also be split as follows: antarikṣe ca vāg uktā apratimā amānuṣī kila. [In this case, the verse will mean:] “An unparalleled celestial voice in the sky [then] announced, ‘That’s right. O king, she is your daughter according to dharma.’”
