ततो रामस्य सत्कृत्य विधिना पावकोपमाः।
आजह्रुस्ते महाभागाः सलिलं धर्मचारिणः।
मङ्गलानि प्रयुञ्जाना मुदा परमया युताः॥
tato rāmasya satkṛtya vidhinā pāvakopamāḥ
ājahrus te mahā-bhāgāḥ salilaṁ dharmacāriṇaḥ
maṅgalāni prayuñjānā mudā paramayā yutāḥ
tataḥ1 rāmasya = Rāma; satkṛtya = having honored; vidhinā = according to scriptural regulations; pāvaka-upamāḥ = who were pure like fire; ājahruḥ = brought; te = those; mahā-bhāgāḥ = the greatly fortunate [sages]; salilam = water; dharmacāriṇaḥ = followers of dharma; maṅgalāni prayuñjānāḥ = invoking auspiciousness [upon Him]; mudā = delight; paramayā = with supreme; yutāḥ = were filled.
Having honored Rāma according to scriptural regulations, the greatly fortunate [sages] brought water. Invoking auspiciousness [upon Him], those followers of dharma who were pure like fire were filled with supreme delight.
1 Technical note: tataḥ satkṛtya.
The sages honored Rāma by inquiring about His welfare and so on. They were pure like fire; this indicates that Rāma was the purifier of those who were pure. “Followers of dharma” indicates that their honor [of Lord Rāmacandra] was the fruit of their execution of dharma. They were greatly fortunate; this indicates that their pious credits had matured. They brought water as appropriate for offering arghya and so on.
