Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 5: Rāma Meets Sage Śarabhaṅga
Text 3.5.3

आश्रमं शरभङ्गस्य राघवोऽभिजगाम ह।
तस्य देवप्रभावस्य तपसा भावितात्मनः॥

āśramaṁ śarabhaṅgasya rāghavo ’bhijagāma ha
tasya deva-prabhāvasya tapasā bhāvitātmanaḥ

āśramam = the āśrama; śarabhaṅgasya = Śarabhaṅga; rāghavaḥ = Rāghava; abhijagāma ha = approached; tasya = of that; deva-prabhāvasya = who possessed divine strength; tapasā = through austerities; bhāvita-ātmanaḥ = and who had realized the Supreme Lord.

Rāghava approached the āśrama of that Śarabhaṅga who possessed divine strength and who had realized the Supreme Lord through austerities.

“That” Śarabhaṅga was the one that Virādha had spoken about. He had attained unmediated realization of the Supreme Brahman, the Personality of Godhead. He achieved this through austerities, that is, through spiritual practice. As stated in the Śruti, one should endeavor to realize the Supreme Lord through austerities (tapasā brahma vijijñāsasva).
