Chapter 5: Rāma Meets Sage Śarabhaṅga
Text 3.5.4
समीपे शरभङ्गस्य ददर्श महदद्भुतम्।
विभ्राजमानं वपुषा सूर्यवैश्वानरोपमम्॥
samīpe śarabhaṅgasya dadarśa mahad adbhutam
vibhrājamānaṁ vapuṣā sūrya-vaiśvānaropamam
samīpe = near; śarabhaṅgasya = Śarabhaṅga; dadarśa = He saw; mahat = a greatly; adbhutam = wonderful being; vibhrājamānam = shone; vapuṣā = whose body; sūrya-vaiśvānara-upamam = like the sun and fire.
He saw a greatly wonderful being near Śarabhaṅga whose body shone like the sun and fire.
“Fire” [here] refers to sources of illumination distinct from the sun.
