Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 5: Rāma Meets Sage Śarabhaṅga
Text 3.5.33
अहमेवाहरिष्यामि सर्वलोकान्महामुने।।
आवासं त्वहमिच्छामि प्रदिष्टमिह कानने॥
aham evāhariṣyāmi sarva-lokān mahā-mune
āvāsaṁ tv aham icchāmi pradiṣṭam iha kānane
aham = I; eva = Myself; āhariṣyāmi = will take; sarva-lokān = all [those] worlds; mahā-mune = O great sage; āvāsam = a place of residence; tu = but; aham = I; icchāmi = want; pradiṣṭam = prescribed by you; iha = in this; kānane = forest.
O great sage, I Myself will take all [those] worlds. But I want a place of residence in this forest as prescribed by you.1
1 This sentence means: “But I want you to prescribe a place for Me to reside in this forest.”
Tu (“but”) indicates that Rāma was talking about a residence dear to Śarabhaṅga.
