Chapter 10: Rāma Asserts His Unbreakable Resolution to Fulfill His Promises
Text 3.10.20
तदवश्यं मया कार्यमृषीणां परिपालनम्।
अनुक्तेनापि वैदेहि प्रतिज्ञाय तु किं पुनः॥
tad avaśyaṁ mayā kāryam ṛṣīṇāṁ paripālanam
anuktenāpi vaidehi pratijñāya tu kiṁ punaḥ
tat avaśyam = certainly; mayā = I; kāryam = should; ṛṣīṇām = the sages; paripālanam = protect; anuktena = without being requested; api = even; vaidehi = Vaidehī; pratijñāya tu = after promising them [to do so]; kim punaḥ = what to speak of.
Vaidehī, even without being requested I should certainly protect the sages, what to speak of after promising them [to do so].
As mentioned earlier, the rākṣasas are [anyway] committing offenses unto Him. Therefore He should kill them. This is implied here.
