Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 11: Rāma Goes to Agastya’s Āśrama
Text 3.11.90
आराधयिष्याम्यत्राहमगस्त्यं तं महामुनिम्।
शेषं च वनवासस्य सौम्य वत्स्याम्यहं प्रभो॥
ārādhayiṣyāmy atrāham agastyaṁ taṁ mahā-munim
śeṣaṁ ca vana-vāsasya saumya vatsyāmy ahaṁ prabho
ārādhayiṣyāmi = will worship; atra = here; aham = I; agastyam = Agastya; tam = the; mahā-munim = great sage; śeṣam = the rest; ca = and; vana-vāsasya = of [our] residence in the forest; saumya = gentle; vatsyāmi = will spend; aham = I; prabho = master.
Gentle master, I will worship the great sage Agastya and I will spend the rest of [our] residence in the forest here.
Śrī Rāmacandra refers to Lakṣmaṇa as prabho (“master”) because Lakṣmaṇa is also a prince. In some manuscripts, prabhoḥ appears instead of prabho indicating that [Rāma wanted to stay at Agastya’s āśrama for the rest of His residence in the forest] with the permission of its master, Agastya.
