Chapter 11: Rāma Goes to Agastya’s Āśrama
Text 3.11.92

नात्र जीवेन्मृषावादी क्रूरो वा यदि वा शठः।
नृशंसः कामवृत्तो वा मुनिरेष तथाविधः॥

na atra jīven mṛṣā-vādī krūro vā yadi vā śaṭhaḥ
nṛśaṁsaḥ kāma-vṛtto vā munir eṣa tathā-vidhaḥ

na atra jīvet = cannot live here; mṛṣā-vādī = one who speaks untruth; krūraḥ = one who is merciless 8; = or; yadi śaṭhaḥ = duplicitous; nṛśaṁsaḥ = murderous; kāma-vṛttaḥ = whimsical; = or; muniḥ eṣaḥ tathā-vidhaḥ = such is the nature of this sage.

One who speaks untruth, or one who is merciless, duplicitous, murderous or whimsical cannot live here.1 Such is the nature of this sage.

A duplicitous person is one who secretly engages in displeasing activities.

1 A whimsical person is one who does whatever he wants. He does not meticulously follow Vedic authority.
