Chapter 12: Agastya Requests Rāma to Protect the Sages
Text 3.12.12
एवमुक्तस्तु मुनिना धर्मज्ञेन महात्मना।
अभिवाद्याब्रवीच्छिष्यस्तथेति नियताञ्जलिः॥
evam uktas tu muninā dharmajñena mahātmanā
abhivādyābravīc chiṣyas tatheti niyatāñjaliḥ
evam = thus; uktaḥ tu = spoke to him; muninā = when the sage; dharmajñena = who knew dharma; mahā-ātmanā = and who was a great soul; abhivādya = offered his respects; abravīt = and said; śiṣyaḥ = the disciple; tathā iti = alright; niyata-añjaliḥ = joined his palms.
When the sage who knew dharma and who was a great soul spoke to him thus, the disciple offered his respects, joined his palms and said, “Alright.”
The disciple did not want to commit the offense of delaying [further]. Therefore he only offered his respects. He will be described as being perplexed (sambhrāntaḥ).
