Chapter 12: Agastya Requests Rāma to Protect the Sages
Text 3.12.26
अग्निं हुत्वा प्रदायार्घ्यमतिथीन्प्रतिपूज्य च।
वानप्रस्थेन धर्मेण स तेषां भोजनं ददौ॥
agniṁ hutvā pradāyārghyam atithīn pratipūjya ca
vānaprasthena dharmeṇa sa teṣāṁ bhojanaṁ dadau
agnim = into the fire; hutvā = offered oblations; pradāya = gave; arghyam = arghya; atithīn = his guests; pratipūjya ca = honored; vānaprasthena = of the vānaprasthas; dharmeṇa = cooked according to the dharma; saḥ = the sage; teṣām = them; bhojanam = food; dadau = and gave.
The sage offered oblations into the fire, gave arghya, honored his guests and gave them food cooked according to the dharma of the vānaprasthas.
The sage performed the Vaiśvadeva sacrificial offering by offering oblations into the fire. He honored his guests with flowers, by giving them water to sip and so on. The food for the vānaprasthas are roots and so on.
