Chapter 13: Rāma Departs for Pañcavaṭī
Text 3.13.6
शतह्रदानां लोलत्वं शस्त्राणां तीक्ष्णतां तथा।
गरुडानिलयोः शैघ्र्यमनुगच्छन्ति योषितः॥
śata-hradānāṁ lolatvaṁ śastrāṇāṁ tīkṣṇatāṁ tathā
garuḍānilayoḥ śaighryam anugacchanti yoṣitaḥ
śata-hradānām = of lightnings; lolatvam = the fickleness; śastrāṇām = of weapons; tīkṣṇatām = the sharpness; tathā = as well as; garuḍa-anilayoḥ = of Garuḍa and Vāyu; śaighryam = the speed; anugacchanti = follow; yoṣitaḥ = women.
The fickleness of lightnings, the sharpness of weapons as well as the speed of Garuḍa and Vāyu follow women.
The following is implied here. Because the minds [of women] are fickle, the fickleness of lightnings is said to follow women. Because they [immediately] give up the ties of affection that have come about since a long time, the sharpness of weapons is said to follow women; this is in consideration of their cruel nature. Because they thoughtlessly engage in rash actions, the speed of Garuḍa and Vāyu is said to follow women.
Having stated the evil nature of worldly women, he states in the next verse that Sītā-devī is distinct from them.
