Chapter 16: Lakṣmaṇa’s Description of Winter
Text 3.16.38
निश्चितापि हि मे बुद्धिर्वनवासे दृढव्रता।
भरतस्नेहसन्तप्ता बालिशीक्रियते पुनः॥
niścitāpi hi me buddhir vana-vāse dṛḍha-vratā
bharata-sneha-santaptā bāliśī-kriyate punaḥ
niścitā = has been fixed; api hi = though; me = My; buddhiḥ = intelligence; vana-vāse = of residing in the forest; dṛḍha-vratā = in My firm vow; bharata-sneha-santaptā = because it is burning due to My affection for Bharata; bāliśī-kriyate = it is becoming childish; punaḥ = again.
Though My intelligence has been fixed in My firm vow of residing in the forest, it is becoming like the intelligence of a child because it burns in affection for Bharata.
In other words, Rāma’s intelligence became excited [by the desire] to meet Bharata even before His prescribed duration of residence in the forest got over.
From the next verse Lord Rāma reveals His affection for Bharata.
