Chapter 16: Lakṣmaṇa’s Description of Winter
Text 3.16.39
संस्मराम्यस्य वाक्यानि प्रियाणि मधुराणि च।
हृद्यान्यमृतकल्पानि मनःप्रह्लादनानि च॥
saṁsmarāmy asya vākyāni priyāṇi madhurāṇi ca
hṛdyāny amṛta-kalpāni manaḥ-prahlādanāni ca
saṁsmarāmi = I remember; asya = His; vākyāni = words; priyāṇi = dear; madhurāṇi = sweet; ca = and; hṛdyāni = they were spoken from the heart; amṛta-kalpāni = nectarean; manaḥ-prahlādanāni = even now delightful to the mind; ca = and.
I remember His dear and sweet words. They were spoken from the heart, nectarean and even now delightful to the mind.
In this world, even though the words spoken by a man may be dear, they may sound harsh to the ears. To deny [that Bharata’s words were like this], He states that they were sweet [to hear]. They were nectarean, that is, they brought about auspiciousness.
