Chapter 17: Śūrpaṇakhā Meets Rāma
Text 3.17.5
तथासीनस्य रामस्य कथासंसक्तचेतसः।
तं देशं राक्षसी काचिदाजगाम यदृच्छया॥
tathāsīnasya rāmasya kathā-saṁsakta-cetasaḥ
taṁ deśaṁ rākṣasī kācid ājagāma yadṛcchayā
tathā āsīnasya = was seated; rāmasya = while Rāma; kathā-saṁsakta-cetasaḥ = with His mind absorbed in [these] discussions; tam = at that; deśam = spot; rākṣasī = rākṣasī; kācit = a; ājagāma = arrived; yadṛcchayā = unexpectedly.
While Rāma was seated with His mind absorbed in [these] discussions, a rākṣasī unexpectedly arrived at that spot.
Sage Vālmīki then describes that rākṣasī as follows.
