Chapter 17: Śūrpaṇakhā Meets Rāma
Text 3.17.15
अनृतं न हि रामस्य कदाचिदपि संमतम्।
विशेषेणाश्रमस्थस्य समीपे स्त्रीजनस्य च॥
anṛtaṁ na hi rāmasya kadācid api sammatam
viśeṣeṇāśramasthasya samīpe strī-janasya ca
anṛtam = lying; na hi = is never; rāmasya = to Rāma; kadācit api = ever; sammatam = acceptable; viśeṣeṇa = especially; āśramasthasya = in a forest for austerities; samīpe strī-janasya = in the presence of women; ca = and.
Lying is never ever acceptable to Rāma, especially in a forest meant for austerities and in the presence of women.
