प्रवृद्धनिद्रश्च सदा कुम्भकर्णो महाबलः।
विभीषणस्तु धर्मात्मा न तु राक्षसचेष्टितः॥
pravṛddha-nidraś ca sadā kumbhakarṇo mahā-balaḥ
vibhīṣaṇas tu dharmātmā na tu rākṣasa-ceṣṭitaḥ
pravṛddha-nidraḥ = deep in sleep; ca = and so is; sadā = always; kumbhakarṇaḥ = Kumbhakarṇa; mahā-balaḥ = the greatly powerful; vibhīṣaṇaḥ tu = and Vibhīṣaṇa; dharma-ātmā = who is dhārmika by nature; na tu = not; rākṣasa-ceṣṭitaḥ = and who does engage in the activities of the rākṣasas.
And so is the greatly powerful Kumbhakarṇa, always deep in sleep, and Vibhīṣaṇa who is dhārmika by nature and who does not engage in the activities of the rākṣasas.1
1 Note that even Śūrpaṇakhā who was a rākṣasī by birth, guṇa and karma knew who was dhārmika and who wasn’t. Those who scrupulously follow Vedic dharma naturally stand out.

2 Even though Vibhīṣaṇa was born in a community of rākṣasas, he had neither the guṇa nor the karma of the rākṣasas, for he was dhārmika by nature and conduct. Those of us who have been born in communities that were sinful and offensive by guṇa and karma can take inspiration from Vibhīṣaṇa and note that Lord Rāma is always there to accept us and deliver us if we surrender unto His lotus feet by following the six guidelines of surrender and by avoiding duplicity and diplomacy. These principles of surrender are detailed in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and we request our readers to read Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam with Prabhupāda’s purports to become qualified to attain the highest perfection of life.
Kumbhakarṇa was also her brother. Tu indicates that Vibhīṣaṇa was distinct [from the rest of his siblings].1 He was also her brother. His distinct nature is set out as dharmātmā [na tu rākṣasa-ceṣṭitaḥ]. Even though Vibhīṣaṇa was born as a rākṣasa, he did not engage in the activities of the rākṣasas.2
