Chapter 18: Śūrpaṇakhā Disfigured
Text 3.18.23
सा विरूपा महाघोरा राक्षसी शोणितोक्षिता।
ननाद विविधान्नादान्यथा प्रावृषि तोयदः॥
sā virūpā mahā-ghorā rākṣasī śoṇitokṣitā
nanāda vividhān nādān yathā prāvṛṣi toyadaḥ
sā = the; virūpā = deformed; mahā-ghorā = and greatly terrible; rākṣasī = rākṣasī; śoṇita-ukṣitā = wet with blood; nanāda vividhān nādān = cried out in various ways; yathā = like; prāvṛṣi = during the monsoon; toyadaḥ = a cloud.
Wet with blood, the deformed and greatly terrible rākṣasī cried out in various ways like a cloud during the monsoon.
